We were able to have our first society meeting of 2020 at Tandridge yesterday and despite recent weather enjoyed a day of golf in the sunshine. 18 members attended of whom 6 managed after the wonderful Tandridge lunch to play a further 9 holes.
We went out in threes and were able to sit at lunch on tables for 6 but somehow managed to use 4 tables!
The Threlfal Cup for the best Stapleford score in the morning was won by John Simpson with 38 points beating Mat Flint, who had been cut by two shots as he won both Spring and Autumn meetings last year. Mat scored 34 points and in third place was Jeremy Brewer with 32 points beating Mark Camp on count back.
The Dick Selleck salver for the best medal score was won by Mat Flint with a gross 79 (8 over) so Mat will be cut again at the next meeting. Jonathan Swinney came second with a gross 81 and 3rd Jeremy Brewer with 83.
Jeremy Brewer presented the second Camp candlestick to Jonathan Swinney who won it with Tom Owens for their foursome score on Captains day.
There was a longest drive prize won by Jonathan Swinney and nearest the pin was won by Nick Cosh.
Although the fairways had been attacked by leather jackets and the weather and not up to the standard Tandridge would have liked they generously gave all attendees a voucher for a courtesy round in 2020. (Duncan Anderson)
