Match Report v Old Cranleighans at Reigate Heath 2 Feb 2020

On Sunday 2 February 2020 the Society lost to the Old Cranleighan Golf Society at Reigate Heath by three matches to one. This was the first warm up match for this year’s Halford Hewitt squad and after a damp January, it was good to play some competitive golf. Reigate Heath is only nine holes but well deserves its status as one of the best nine hole courses in the country. The course is tight but interesting and it is worth playing there just for the views from the clubhouse.
The Society has deep and longstanding relations with the OCGS and the match is played for the The Cranwich Salver. This was duly retained by Cranleigh. The OCGS is 100 years old this year and they have commissioned some fine wines emblazoned with their crest. This complimented the superb lunch which is a well known feature of Reigate Heath Golf Club.
So overall the match was very worthwhile and huge fun. Thanks again to Cranleigh for their hospitality.
It would however be great if more of our younger members took part. The opportunity to play at some of the best courses in the South East of England at no cost is as good as it gets!
