Centenary dinner report

On Tuesday 11th February, exactly 100 years (and 2 days) after the society was formed, 79 Old Alleynians and their guests enjoyed a fantastic evening at the East India Club in St James’ Square to celebrate the centenary of the Old Alleynians Golfing Society.

The evening started with informal drinks in the bar, followed by a drinks reception in the Smoking Room, where old friends renewed their acquaintances and new friendships were made.

This was followed by dinner in the Dining Room. We enjoyed a superb meal, with the rack of lamb exceptional. The meal was accompanied by the Old Alleynian Centenary wine (which is available to purchase from the Hon Sec), which was enjoyed by all and an excellent port was the perfect partner to the savoury served as an alternative to dessert.

Our Captain Nick Owen (72-81) welcomed everyone to the evening with a humorous speech. Philip Truett (Cranleigh) proposed the toast to the Society in his own inimitable style and Nick replied. The reply on behalf of the guests was given by Jim Patrick (Glenalmond) in a most amusing and enjoyable manner.
The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of the School song, led by Nigel Farage.
