It is with great sadness that we report that Tony Brewer has recently died.
Tony was both Society Captain and playing Captain of the 1982 Halford Hewitt team that lost in the final to Charterhouse. He was also Society Captain again in 1988.
He was a member of the winning Grafton Morrish team in 1971.
As a member of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club he was the instigator of the annual match against the club in 1983. The match continues to this day.
Tony was an excellent, if not idiosyncratic, golfer. His attention to timing was such that he normally played the evens at Deal so that he could arrive in the car park as his partner was teeing off the first. He was an excellent putter with a style that has often been imitated by those of a jocular persuasion.
He was a bon vivant without peer and many of us have benefited from his unending knowledge of hostelries in Deal. Regardless of how many, and there were a lot, that we went to, Tony knew the landlord and all the regulars.
Above all Tony was a gentleman who was a true team player. He looked after everyone and made everyone feel a part of something truly enjoyable.
